LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) -- Production on NBC's low-rated newcomer "Kidnapped" is set to shut down in a few weeks after the serial thriller completes its 13th episode, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The trade publication quoted sources as saying that NBC and producer Sony Pictures TV have agreed to wrap up the story line about a wealthy family, headed by Timothy Hutton and Dana Delany, whose teenage son is abducted. The show remains in the Wednesday 10 p.m. slot, and the network has committed to airing all 13 episodes. Last week, it ranked No. 67 in viewership, drawing just 6.3 million people, according to Nielsen Media Research. The premiere episode pulled in 7.6 million the week before. It was created by Jason Smilovic, who wrote the gangster feature "Lucky Number Slevin."
My commentary is this, how long were they really expecting a show about a kidnapped boy to go on for? Years? I mean, after a while people are going to become dis interested anyway. Like Gilligans Island. How many different times can someone come to the island to rescue them and then not take them, before we as an audience feel like the joke's on us? I knew when they started advertising this show(kdinapped), that it was going to be very tough to keep an audience for a few seasons. How many different people can you cast suspicion on before the show loses all credibility? Take "Friends" for example. The only love angle they never explored was Ross and Monica. And I'm pretty sure if they would have done another season, they might have had to in order to maintain their audience. A show about a kidnapped boy is nice if it's a 2 hour movie called "Ransom". Also, one more thing about that, Delroy Lindo, the black guy who played the cop in Ransom played the same exact role on "Kidnapped".
The writer of "Kidnapped" did write an amazing movie in "Lucky Number Slevin". You definitely owe it to yourself to go see it if you haven't done so already. That's all, good night now. |
